During Reconstruction there was great debate over whether the South should be granted amnesty. What are your thoughts? Defend your argument.

During Reconstruction there was great debate over whether the South should be granted amnesty.. should the south be granted amnesty? No, I do not believe that the south should be granted amnesty. Amnesty means to give forgiveness, so why should they be granted forgiveness? They shouldn't!
First of all because why would you grant forgiveness to the south when they don't deserve it. All the south did was break up the united states by seceding from the  north to become the confederate slave states. So I question that the idea of even considering amnesty with the south.
Second of all, Creating amnesty with the south might come off as insulting to the south because they are doing what they thought was right. So forgiving them for that is like saying, "what you thought was right is wrong, so your wrong we are right and now we forgive you for it." So it could have just angered the south and possibly the north because the people of the union might now want to forgive the south for seceding and breaking apart the wonderful United States of America.
Lastly, what would forgiveness to the south even accomplish? Would the south say, "well they forgive us lets just quit our ways and rejoin the union to make the United States whole again"? Happily ever after... no. It is not that simple. What if the south doesn't accept the forgiveness and still enforces war upon the union? Then creating amnesty was a waste and the south could possibly take insult to the offer, like I said in the previous paragraph.
In conclusion, the south should not be granted amnesty because of several reasons listed above. Creating amnesty might make even more problem then need so. No... no amnesty.
