America is know as a place where you can live the dream. There is the American dream... where you can come to America and be free and start over. So the immigrants were probably excited and psyched to come and live the dream and be free in America.
So the immigrants first impression of america is Ellis Island. Ellis island is what you have to go though to become a citizen or come live in America. Ellis island is also beautiful. Its gorgeous and seams to be everything that these immigrants have dreamed of, this place is magnificent.
But little did they know that all of america isn't as perfect and wonderful as Ellis Island. These immigrants soon enter the city where there is poop on the streets and big families are forced to move into small apartment where living conditions aren't exactly adequate.
The city (which is what the immigrants came here for) its the dumps. Its trashy and gross, so the immigrants are probably upset and ticked off. The were mis informed, or not told the whole trust. The emotions of these immigrants are all negative because the american dream is nothing what they though it was. There was probably a lot of tension and stress amongst these families who came all this way to be in the dumps not realizing that they will have to work their way to the top, even though there is a slim chance that they'll even get that far. For most families great success was far out of reach unless they somehow had special connections.
